About me

Greg Embree Photography In 2010 one of my pictures won a "Print of the Year" award from the Northern Virginia Photographic Society. In the one juried show I have entered, my work was among 106 photographs selected for inclusion (from among 1,620 entries) by the legendary National Geographic photographer, the late Volkmar Wentzel. Popular Photography , the world's largest magazine devoted to cameras and picture taking, has twice used my photos in its advertising. In 2012 I won first prize in the Arlington County (Virginia) Libraries Department's iPhone photo contest, among 66 entries.

Later in 2012 I won first prize in the Fine Art Portfolio category of the FotoWeekDC competition, which, according to the Washington Post, drew 3,450 entrants from 32 countries. The panel of 31 judges included the founder of the Addison/Ripley Gallery in Washington, the photography editor of Washingtonian magazine, the photography editor of Smithsonian magazine, the former picture editor of the London Times, the executive director of the American Society of Media Photographers, the director of photography of the Washington Post, the senior editor of National Geographic magazine, and the senior editor for photography of National Geographic Traveler magazine.
